WP 5 - Socio-economic and Investor Evaluation
The work package is mainly concerned with the economic aspects of flexibility in the energy system. Research activities: The WP is undertaking research on developing methodologies for estimating the socio economic value of flexibility in the transmission system (Task 5.1) and the modeling of flexible DERs are incorporated into a system wide model (Balmorel). Another task is developing a model representing the distribution level constraints on the availability of flexibility for addressing transmission level needs (task 5.2). One task is concerned with the impact of flexibility tax and tariff regimes on consumption and the value of DERs (Task 5.3). Innovative activities: The innovative tasks are mainly concerned with development of business cases for various flexible DER technologies, for individual stakeholders and the society. A range of potential benefits and methodologies to derive their value has been developed (Task 5.4) and are successfully being implemented. WP5 is taking active part in the development of FLECH (FLExibility Clearing House). There are two aspects in this relation which WP5 is responsible for. One is the design of market mechanisms and products that are being traded at FLECH and the second is estimating the socio economic value of FLECH. Besides WP5 core activities the work package also takes a role in cross-WP activities and have led the work of developing contract templates for flexible demand side units working with aggregators to operate their electric consumption and is leading the work on quantitative scenarios.
